View the Wow! That's Engineering! Webinar for requirements and application process.
While the demand for technology-savvy entrants in the workplace is growing three times faster than all other occupations, the percentage of women engineers in the workforce remains at approximately ten percent. In an effort to change the current perspective of engineering and technology fields among girls, the Society of Women Engineers will celebrate Wow! That’s Engineering!®, honoring the achievements of women and girls as they develop and discover the future through technology.
Our Objectives for Wow! That's Engineering are to
- Facilitate a change in attitude about careers in engineering by introducing participants to the creative, innovative, and forward thinking sides of engineering
- Engage participants in hands-on activities that build self-confidence and critical thinking skills around engineering principles
- Foster mentoring relationships between participants and role models to encourage an expanded sense of community and a deeper understanding of what engineers do
- Connect priorities about what participants want in their future work and life to the work and life of an engineer by sharing personal stories and celebrating the accomplishment of women engineers

Wow! That's Engineering! kicked off in Chicago, Wednesday March 8, 2006 at the Museum of Science and Industry. Subsequent events took place in other major cities including Austin, Orlando, Philadelphia, Raleigh, and San Francisco throughout spring 2006. In Wow! That’s Engineering! events, SWE creates an experience for middle and high school girls where they have the opportunity to meet female engineers and technologists and hear first-hand about these exciting career paths. Women engineers and technologists present interactive activities, and the girls experience the creativity and innovation that goes on in the field of engineering.
